Enriching Creativity Support Tools with Art Pedagogy & Dialectical Engagement

This project aims to present speculative designs for Creativity Support Tools (CSTs) that incorporate learnings from art pedagogy, aiming to transform the way technology supports creative expression. By drawing from principles such as critical reflection, experiential learning, and the cultivation of a personal creative voice, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between the functional capabilities of current CSTs and the deeper, more nuanced aspects of the creative process emphasized in art education. The project is rooted in the recognition that while CSTs have significantly advanced in terms of functionality and usability, there's a vast potential to enrich the creative experience by integrating art pedagogical principles. These principles advocate for a more holistic approach to creativity support, one that acknowledges the importance of the emotional, experiential, and transformative dimensions of creative work. This project will not only present these speculative designs but also discuss potential challenges and opportunities for integrating art pedagogy into CSTs. It aims to spark a conversation among HCI researchers, tool developers, artists, and educators about the future of creativity support technology.
