Novices struggle to understand professional web architectures 🖥️. Professional sites can be good learning resources because they are inspectable 🧐, include up to date techniques and best practices 👩💻, and don’t need to be maintained 👷. We don’t yet understand the ways that different classes of sensemaking tools, namely graphical and debugging tools, can help novices explore these sites and learn 👨🏿🎓 about their implementations. While graphical systems have been shown to help novices understand asynchronous architectures, they haven’t been tested against the popular debugging tools that novices already use to inspect the frontend of websites and learn about details of real time data flow 🚰 and visual updates.
